Plug-ins I Love For Post - The Lifesaver That Is iZotope RX4 Advanced
Following on from Russ' series Plug-ins I Love I am going to share with you the plug-ins I love working in audio post production, and top of the list is a no brainer for me, it has to be iZotope's RX4 Advanced. The number of projects where I have been able to retrieve audio that was otherwise completely unusable is huge.
2 Examples Of izotope RX4 Saving The Day
Two recent examples in my work where RX4 has saved the day.
The first one was where a studio based panel recording was badly distorted and they were looking at a complete reshoot very close to transmission with all the challenges of rebooking guests, studio etc. They sent me the files and I was able to fix it. It wasn't a simple fix but with two different settings I was able to get files where one fix would fix a lot of the distortion and a different configuration fixed the problems the first one didn't fix but didn't fix the problems the first one fixed, and so a couple hours of my time saved them from having to reshoot the show.
The second example was for a radio documentary which was in the form of an audio diary, however the audio was captured by two different producers on different days with different equipment in different locations. To tell the story they wanted to be able to cross cut between the different recordings, but they didn't match so I used EQ Match and Ambience Match to make the edits seamless enabling the producers to tell the story without external narration.
The return on investment of this package has been amazing, not just in financial terms for me but in terms of client appreciation and repeat business and the money it has saved my clients too.
RX Monitor Plug-in
With the RX Monitor plug-in in Pro Tools you can now monitor what you do in the RX4 standalone application without leaving Pro Tools. This is especially useful for Pro Tools HDX users where using the host computer’s audio output for RX and then your Avid hardware for Pro Tools.
RX Connect Connect Plug-in
As well as the RX Monitor plug-in, iZotope added RX Connect in RX4, making it easy to export audio out of your Pro Tools, so you can use all the features that are in the standalone version of RX4 before sending the processed versions back to your Pro Tools session.
